The Mulder Family Tradition at Platte Lake - Day 6, August 14th

The Canoe Trip. In 1993, we started the tradition of the Platte River Canoe Trip. We know this since we have a picture of Brenda floating down the river while she nurses a one year old Philip. We launch at the State Park at M-22 and continue down to where the river empties into Lake Michigan. The trip use to take about 2 hours but as the grand kids have gotten older (and thus better at paddling), it is now a 1 1/2 hour trip.

We use a combination of canoes and kayaks. Rarely do we rent the canoes or kayaks since the VanHammens and Doug Waldie (the owner of the house we rent) provide several and Craig and Kathi own a few kayaks. Some of our fondest cabin memories revolve around the canoe trip. Following the trip, we always spent several hours at the beach.
The favorite cabin memory today is from Craig.
