Over the last eight years, Brenda has brought home many books about Alzheimer's. A recent book caught my attention and I have been reading it this last week. The Myth of Alzheimer's by Dr. Peter J Whitehouse takes a very unique look at the common perceptions of the Alzheimer's diagnosis and focuses extensively on the natural aging of the brain and a broader understanding of memory loss. One of his statements really hit home for me:
"No matter the decline in our cognitive functioning we still retain our humanity, and that humanity can still be engaged and loved even under the harshest changing circumstances: There is never a loss of self, only a change in self"
