After winning the Mulder Olympics in dominating fashion, Laurel's phone rang. It was the MSU Medical School with news of her acceptance. Laurel immediately cried tears of joy. She had been on their wait list of five months and she finally got in. School starts in nine days and she has to find an apartment in downtown Grand Rapids. MSU splits their MD class between their GR and East Lansing campuses. Laurel is really excited to be at their new GR facilities and in the heart of the medical mile.

I think these events are related. The admissions committee at MSU must have heard about the Mulder Olympic results.
