Guatemala - Day 6

Today is March 5th, our last full day in Guatemala. Tomorrow we fly back to Chicago at 8:30 pm and arrive on Sunday morning at 1:30 am. We are going to spend the night with our friends, catch a few hours of sleep, and drive back to Portage later Sunday morning. On the way to the airport we are going to stop in Antigua - one of Guatemala's oldest cities.

Today started like the other days with a beautiful blue sky and the sun coming over the mountains at about 8:15 am. While the temperature drops to 65 degrees at night, it quickly warms to 80+ degrees when the sun rises. We decided to spend the morning at the pool since the girls realize it will be three months before they feel 80 degrees in Michigan. By about 3:00 pm the clouds from the Pacific Ocean come over the volcanoes and fill the sky, so we decided to plan activities for the afternoon.

Our first visit was to the nearby city of San Antonio to buy locally made pottery. I have attached a few photos. The design is beautiful and very affordable. We all purchased several pieces. Next was zip lining. Brenda, Amanda, Laurel and Stephanie all went while the other girls continued shopping. Since I have a great fear of heights, I offered to be the official photographer. The cost for zip lining was only $20 and they went on eight different stretches. It was along side a lush mountain area. As we left zip lining to rejoin the group, five of us boarded on a single Tuk Tuk. Our driver, Kevin, was pretty happy to share the front seat with Laurel and Stephanie. Check out the photos.

We wrapped up the day with dinner at the Sunset Cafe. The food was great and cheap - only $7 for a great meal. The food on the trip was outstanding. Whether the meal was at a local restaurant or was a homemade dinner, it was locally grown and very tasty. I also included a few photos of the food.
Overall it was a great trip and a unique experience. I have included a photo of the girls with our host David. David was wonderful and took care of so many details. We all want to go back soon.
