Guatemala - Day 2

Today started with kayaking on Lake Atitla. We rented the kayaks for $3 a person and left from the village of Santa Catarina. The lake was as smooth as glass and the girls started the first competition of the "Guatemala Olympics". The girls have divided into two teams and created a long list of events in which to compete. Event number one was the kayak race. The teams are Anna, Amy and Amanda versus Laurel, Margie and Stephanie.

After kayaking , we rented a private boat and headed accross the lake to the villages of San Juan and San Pedro. We walked around to see the various shops and had the best guacamole in the world. The girls made friends with every stray dog in the village. There are twelve villages that surround the lake. Many people still wear their traditional Mayan clothing and make local crafts. The people are all so friendly.

Tomorrow we are horseback riding and the cook will be making us a wonderful dinner with fresh fish from the Pacific. Can't wait!! Here are some shots from today. The beautiful view is from the house.

Looks like lots of fun!

Dad, the picture below of the girls sleeping is creepy.

Also, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabies to see why I wouldn't come near any stray Guatemalan dogs!

BTW, I started L&D nights this week, so I will hopefully be delivering babies soon!
