Every year, Portage Northern High School participates in a year end Forensics and Debate tournament held at the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island. The purpose of the tournament is to have some year end fun and give the kids an opportunity to try new events. Phil decided to try Duo Broadcasting. Phil and his partner, senior Elliott Manning, took second place. Phil wrote a hilarious seven minute broadcast which even included Phil and Elliott doing a rap (Phil can tell you more).
Brenda and I went along (the benefit on now only having one child at home). While it was a cold weekend (50 degrees and windy), the island was beautiful and we all rode bikes on Sunday. It is the only tourist destination in the world that is able to equally blend of smells of fudge and horse crap.
The Grand Hotel was a great experience. The kids enjoyed dressing up each evening for dinner and they held a dance the last night. Brenda and I hung out with the other forensics parents. I will try to get some pictures posted.
