The Ultimate Memory Test - Your 30 year High School Reunion

This past Saturday, Brenda and I went to Lowell to attend my 30 year high school reunion. The last reunion I attended was the 10 year reunion in 1990. Recognizing how different people look after 20 or 30 years, I was apprehensive about going. How was I going to recognize anyone? Would anyone recognize me? The reunion started at 6:30pm and was held at the home of a classmate, only four blocks from Mom and Dad's house. I figured that if it was really boring, we could leave early and tell people we needed to visit my parents.

Well my apprehension was unwarranted, I had a great time and hated to leave at 11:30pm. While a few of my close high school friends were missing, several did make it. I really enjoyed catching up with old friends like Todd Bryan, Mark Homoka, Barry Eldridge and Karisue Lambert. Their stories were interesting and it was fun to share what I had been doing for the last 30 years. Of course, upon seeing Brenda, everyone agreed that I had "married up". I also had the most educated kids (my opinion of course). It was amazing how many people still live in Lowell!

As I went around and met people, some of the faces I knew immediately while others took a few minutes. Overall I was very impressed with how well I remembered everyone- except for Larry. Larry and his wife Perry spoke to me for over 1/2 hour. They live in Denver and Larry had been in the Air Force for 20 years. While I recognized Perry from playing in band, Larry was a complete mystery to me. On Sunday, I went to my 1980 Lowell High School year book to see more photos of Larry. But my memory has not been jogged. This is really bugging me. Are the memories of Larry located in a part of my brain that is completely gone? What else have I forgotten or lost?

Today at work, Stacy had to remind me to follow up on a task. Maybe the task was sitting in the same part of my brain as Larry? Kinda scary.
