Shopping Hell

This past week was the annual ritual of back to school clothes shopping. Other than Laurel (for whom this was the highlight of the year and a significant financial expense), the boys all considered school clothes shopping with Mom a fate worse than death. Bryan hated shopping for clothes. He would argue with Brenda insisting that he only needed one pair of jeans and two shirts for the entire school year. Keith's argument was that his old clothes were still perfectly fine. Since Keith didn't grow much past seventh grade, he still wanted to wear his South Park t-shirt in the 12th grade (even with holes and yellowed armpits).

Philip is a little more amenable than his brothers, but not by much. Philip needed new jeans, shorts, and several shirts. Since they couldn't find much in Kalamazoo, Brenda took him to the Sommerset Mall in Troy. Brenda had to endure Phil's complaining for several hours, but she bribed him a chocolate covered apple and a fancy drink at Starbucks. Overall, the trip was a success and Phil will look good for his senior pictures.

That chocolate covered apple was great and all, but man was that shopping long! The worst part was that it was several hours away!! They sell shirts and pants right here! But I guess we needed something fancy for my senior photos. I am grateful that mom took me, because I know that it was something that had to be done, but it was easily the most grueling experience of my Summer. It's hard to imagine that Bryan and Keith were actually more reluctant to go clothes shopping than I am.

As usual, I am way behind the times but finally got around to checking the blog and I must say that clothes shopping was high on the list for Cliff. He absolutely refused to wear any hand-me-downs, a very common occurance in many families. - always wanted the 'latest' and felt a rather diverse wardrobe was essential. Must be none of his sons followed in his tradition.
