Last week was the first trip to California for Brenda and me since 2002. After touring Napa and Sonoma on the first three days (see later post), we spend the last four days in Half Moon Bay just south of San Francisco. Our hotel was right on the ocean and the views were outstanding. Following my work meetings, we drove down Highway One on the coast and also spend a afternoon at Muir Woods admiring the redwood trees. On Saturday, we did a tour of San Francisco. The only drawback of the trip was the weather. It was 53- 58 degrees nearly everyday - which I understand is normal for this area of California. It was ideal for hiking but we did not enjoy the outside sitting areas of the hotel. With the strong ocean breezes, it was simply too cold.
While the California coast was beautiful, it also made us appreciate the beauty of northern Michigan. Of all gorgeous views we have seen on our travels, it is hard to beat the beauty of Sleeping Bear Dunes and the Lake Michigan coast.

The flowers in California were beautiful, especially the roses.

Awkwardly, the State of California had signs warning people about me?

Our dress for the Friday Night Gala. We fit in perfectly since the theme was prohibition and speakeasies from the 1920's.

The views were beautiful (as was my wife!)

The view from our hotel at Half Moon Bay. If only it had been warm enough to enjoy the views.
