Laurel's Spring Break Trip to Texas for U of M

For Laurel's spring break, she participated on an alternative trip sponsored by U of M. She traveled with 11 other students to El Paso Texas to study immigration issues. She stayed at the Annunciation House, a refugee home run by the Catholic Church for undocumented workers. While on the trip, they visited the border and spoke with Border Patrol agents, nuns, Mexican families, and professors from the University of Texas, El Paso. While staying at the house, they helped with meals, light cleaning and got to play with the children. The boy in the picture really took a liking to Laurel. Other than sleeping in a room full of cockroaches, Laurel loved the trip. It really opened her eyes to the many issues related to boarder security, undocumented workers, and the plight of the Mexican people. They did not travel to Juarez, Mexico because of the recent violence.
