In an unprecedented move the Lowell School Board, in a February 1 resolution, has recognized Cliff Mulder as a top ten graduate of the class of 1980.  Previously Mr Mulder had been ranked as number 33 in his graduating class, but thanks to the efforts of his mother Ann Mulder and brother Kevin Mulder, Lowell opened Cliff's academic files and discovered that many of his A's had been recorded as B's. Cliff's recalculated grade point came in at 3.99 placing him as #3 in the class.

"We are terribly embarrassed over the issue and we deeply regret this oversight" stated Craig Pratt, Superintendent of Lowell Public Schools.   "We have immediately fixed the 1980 Top Ten plaque which hangs in the high school lobby" added Mr Pratt.  "This is such a relief for the entire Mulder family" commented Ann Mulder.  "I always took such pride in having three of my children graduate in the top ten. Now I don't have to be embarrassed about Cliff's academic record.

Allen Mulder, Cliff's father, was not surprised at all.  "While Cliff always hid his intelligence, I knew that he was my brightest son".  "This will go along ways to healing some of the pain and humiliation Cliff has experienced over the last 34 years".  But not all the Mulder family was thrilled with the news.  Cliff's older brother Craig disputed the findings and alleges that the plaque was an altered photo and that his mother, dispite being a former Lowell school board member, was not authorized to sign the resolution.
Even Brenda Mulder, Cliff's wife questioned the news.  "I have been married to Cliff for nearly 30 years and he is not a top ten high school graduate". "This is a farce"!

When reached for a comment, Cliff said that this was the proudest day of his life.  "I felt like I was having a Wizard of Oz moment.  Like the scare crow, I knew that I had a brain all along and now I have the papers to prove it". Cliff plans to have the resolution framed and prominently displayed in his financial planning office.
