Sport historians will tell you that the sport of high jumping changed forever when Dick Fosbury invented the "Fosbury Flop" and won the gold medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics. The Fosbury Flop so changed the technique of the sport, that all the records were instantly rewritten. Well this weekend in Colorado, the sport of rock climbing had its own revolution.
Competing in the pairs rock climbing event, Brenda Mulder and Linda McCormick revealed a technique that propelled them to victory. The twin sisters from Michigan and Texas used a new system of "hands to butt" climbing that allowed them to beat their next closes competitors by 46 seconds. "I came up with the idea by watching men play football. In football, some one's hands are always touching another man's butt. I figured if it works for football, why not rock climbing" stated Linda. Brenda added, " We have practiced the technique for months and it was satisfying to see our hard work payoff".
Asked if they had named their new technique, Brenda and Linda said they were too busy doing promotions for Fruit of the Loom and Valsoline Intensive Care to think of a name. Perhaps one of my readers will have an idea?
