End of an Era

For many of the last fourteen years, I have driven at least one of our kids to school on my way to work. I have made many trips to Portage West Middle School, Portage Northern High School and the Kalamazoo Math and Science Center (KAMSC). The kids often needed to be dropped off between 7:30 am and 7:45 am which allowed me to arrive at work around 8:00.
This past year I had the honor of driving Philip to KAMSC. Even better, he often did the driving and I had the opportunity to read the Wall Street Journal or grill Philip about his school activities. Last Friday, however, was the final time. KAMSC is over and next year he will be driving the Honda Accord to Portage Northern in the morning.
So my years of having companionship in the morning is over. I am going to miss it. It was a great time for me to talk with the kids and check up on their day. So here is a photo of our "last drive".
I guess it is back to listening to the Greatest Hits of the 70's and daydreaming of my next blog posting.

If you're really upset about it, I can keep the car
next year and you can still drive phil. Sounds great.

Aw dad, I have had a great time on those morning trips with you! You really taught me to appreciate "good" music from the 70s.
