Going Back - Visiting Athens, Georgia for the first time in 27 years!

As many of my readers know, Brenda and I (with Bryan) spent the first yer of our married lives in Athens, Georgia as I was getting my Masters of Public Administration. We picked the University of Georgia since it was reasonably priced, had an accelerated program and it gave us a chance to live in another part of the country.

We left in August of 1985 and had never been back. So with my business trip to Atlanta, we decided to tack on an extra day and visit the old stomping grounds. Either a lot has changed in 27 years or our memories are really bad. Very little of Athens or the University looked familiar. We did find, however, my old classrooms and our apartment complex. The apartment was really run down and the beautiful pool and pool house (Bryan's favorites) were filled in and boarded up. The apartment building had horrible carpet and nothing was updated or changed. It was much nicer 27 years ago.

Athens is a great university town and we enjoyed walking the streets and having an excellent dinner. The campus is also beautiful. Many of the buildings are similar to what you see at Kalamazoo College.

We are really glad we went back?
