The Great Wall of China - Worth the 14 Hour Flight

Brenda and I had a lot of apprehension about our trip to China.  We knew of people who loved their trip to China and others who hated it.  Overall, we had a wonderful time and had some very unique experiences.  The highlight was the Great Wall.  We were fortunate to have a dinner event on the Great Wall organized by my company and then we did a half day excursion on our own.  The Wall was built over 400 years and runs over 5,000 miles.  It is a hugh structure made of natural rock and hand made bricks.  It was used against intrusions from numerous warlike nomadic tribes.  Pictures do not do it justice.  We only had about two hours to hike the Wall, but wish we had all day.  The countryside around the wall is stunning and lucky for us, it was a low pollution day.

At our dinner - not dressed for hiking

we took a cable car to the top of the wall

Good thing we wore white - it was a hot day

It was really long and steep - difficult hiking
